The New Epic; Parasite-Rules for "STAR WARS: CCG"

by Rasmus Fuhse, 25th Jan. 1998

Here is another gaming system for "SW:CCG". I call it "The New Epic". It’s about a more interesting duel in the Star Wars universe. The rules for "The New Epic" are short but effective. There are two opponents - one of the light side, one of the dark side. The opponents are fighting against each other, as you know it from the main game. All other rules are as the main rules, too. But each player may have more than one deck. Each player has the same number of decks. And each deck comprises 60 cards. And there are special rules for how to make the decks. You have one deck from which you start. The light side player has to announce his / her starting location before the dark player makes his / her decks. The dark side player has to put his / her starting location at the same system of the light side starting location. But starting locations generally may not be a docking bay or places on which there are location deployment restrictions. Also no player is allowed to put any locations, which have no force icons at the opponent´s side, or any "destiny-1" cards, except special cards in their starter decks.

For example: Susan, the light side player, wants to declare her starting location. She wants to start at "Yavin 4: Jungle". But she isn’t allowed to do that, because her Jungle has no dark side force icon. So she decides the "Dagobah: Training Area" for her starting location. The training area has a force icon, but there are location deploying restrictions as said in the Dagobah Rules Supplement. So she decides the "Tattoine: Mos Eisley". That’s OK. And now, it is up to Peter, the dark side player, to decide his starting location. He may not use the docking bay and so he declares the Tattoine System to his starting location.

"No one is allowed to put any "destiny-1" cards except special-cards in his / her starter decks." Special-Cards are cards that do not belong to the first deck restrictions of "The New Epic". But each player may only put up to four special cards in his / her deck. Special-Cards may be Death Star locations, which have no force icons on the opponents side, or main characters, which have normally a destiny of one, or whatever you want. So George Lucas started with the location "Tattoine: Dune Sea". His Special-Cards were Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo and Chewbacca; ---- R2-D2 and C-3PO were also in his Deck but they are not Special Cards.

Each player starts the game with his / her starter deck. If one player has no more life force, or if he / she was involved in an Epic Event, that player may choose one of his / her decks to use for the next time until that deck is finished. If there are just a few cards in the life force, then you put the next Deck on top of your reserve deck. As a player changes his / her deck that player also must reduce his / her lost pile. The last half of it will be cut and goes out of the play. That rule should give you a feeling of weakness. If you lose your "Darth Vader" and if you will get the next "Empire’s Back" in your next deck, you will pay attention for losing cards. The non-starter decks have no restrictions, but you must make them before the beginning of the big game and you may not have more decks, as your opponent has. That’s all. I hope this is an interesting idea for playing "Star Wars: CCG".
